About 100 supporters, sponsors and iwi marked the opening of Sanctuary Mountain’s new education centre this morning.
Manu Korokii Education Centre has been 20 years in the making and opens a new chapter in teaching on the maunga.
It’s major sponsor, The Profile Group, recently collected the supreme award at the Waikato Business Awards.
Mayor Susan O’Regan told the audience Sanctuary Mountain was intrinsically part of the Waipā district and there had been “many mountains to climb” to realise the vision.
She also acknowledged her predecessor Jim Mylchreest, a former chief executive of Maungatautari for his contribution.
Thousands of young people visit Sanctuary Mountain each year.
