The work of several artists utilising Waipā disability services feature in the IHC Art Awards exhibition at Webb’s Auction House in Wellington and in an online gallery.
Ian Cotterell’s ‘The Old Barn’ completed at Enrich Plus in Te Awamutu which he describes as a character filled old barn “just like me” is on display at the IHC art exhibition in Wellington but has already sold.
The IHC Art Awards provide artists with an intellectual disability the opportunity to have their talent recognised, their voices heard and to sell their work.
Auckland’s Amy Hall won the awards and a $5000 prize with her needlework self-portrait Love Cats. Hamilton’s Cherie Mellsopp, who won in 2009, was third with her work Veil of Gold.
Waipā artist Julie Tate part way through her entry Dezigns at Enrich Plus in Te Awamutu. The piece features in the IHC art exhibition in Wellington. It is her first design painting and “I love it.”
Voting for the L’affare People’s Choice Award closes on Sunday.
Work in the exhibition includes pieces entered by Waipā artists Kathleen Bayer, Ben Bayer, Stevi Taylor, Cameron Viles, Peter Crawford, Ian Cotterell, Caitlin Thomas, Paul Morriss, Willy Bardoul, Julie Tate, Karma Grieveson Pask, Andrea Meddings and Pauline Bueno.

Waipa artist Willy Bardoul with his Road Trip artwork completed at Enrich Plus in Te Awamutu which features in the IHC art exhibition in Wellington. It reminds him of places he has seen when travelling around New Zealand.
