Rose growers are readying their blooms for Te Awamutu’s annual spring show staged by the Te Awamutu Rose Society.

Enjoying last year’s rose show are Lisa Fisher, Linnie Jones and Georgia Haney.
Last year’s big 60th anniversary show attracted 339 exhibitor and saw two new classes added – First Time Exhibitor in the Members of the Public Awards, for both adults and children up to the age of 16. Organisers hoped the move would inspire younger and first-time growers, and with 57 children and 19 adults entering those classes, it worked a charm.
This year’s two day show, at the Te Awamutu Sports and Recreation Club, open on Friday next week.
Organisers have two open classes for the public in place again this year – class 49 for youngsters up to age 16, and class 50 for those over 16 and upwards.
Rose Society organiser Linnie Jones said anyone keen to enter their blooms can either contact the society ahead of time or bring in their roses between 4pm and 5.30pm on October 30.
“We have set that time aside for members of the public to bring in their entries and register. There will be stewards on hand to help you stage your roses, and there is no cost involved, but there is a limit on two roses per person.”
The show will kick off a season of roses for Te Awamutu. Late in November, the Rose Society will hold Rose Sunday, a free family day with games and live music.
