Jo Davies-Colley has been appointed Waipa District Council deputy mayor following the swearing in of councillors today.
“Jo brings a calm, collaborative approach and a strong understanding of the issues that matter most, like strengthening connections with our communities,” said mayor Mike Pettit.
“I am confident that together we will be able to deliver positive outcomes for our residents and ratepayers and advance the priorities for our district.”
Before making the decision, Pettit held one-on-one meetings with all councillors. He said Davies-Colley’s appointment reflects the Council’s ongoing commitment to strong leadership, collaboration, and putting the needs of the community first.
“Jo has served on the Cambridge Community Board for the past six years and has been chairperson for three,” Pettit said. “In that time, she has attended numerous council meetings and workshops, showing a clear commitment to building her knowledge across the district, and has proven to be a strong relationship builder. She has all the credentials I want in a deputy.”

Davies-Colley said she was honoured to accept the role and was looking forward to supporting Pettit and working alongside the council team to serve the Waipā District.
“Although newly elected to council, my six years on the Cambridge Community Board have provided a solid foundation in local government and given me the opportunity to build strong relationships across our community,” she said.
“While I was elected by the people of Cambridge, I’m privileged to now serve the wider Waipā District, and my focus will be on representing all of our towns and rural communities.”
Councillors appointed to community boards were Dean Taylor and Shane Walsh to Te Awamutu-Kihikihi while Pip Kempthorne and Mike Montgomerie were confirmed for Cambridge.
New mayor Mike Pettit thanked former mayor Susan O’Regan for her service.
