Te Awamutu’s BMX club is celebrating hosting a highly successful national championships – and top placings for its own members.
“The champs were a huge success from start to finish,” club president Rod Prescott said. “With the sun shining, it set the stage for what became one of the biggest events in recent memory, attracting over 700 riders from across the country — including Kiwi riders returning home from Australia to compete.”
A standout feature was the club’s track team’s work in fully resurfacing the track.
“Moving away from the traditional lime surface proved to be a massive success, delivering a hard, fast, smooth running track — exactly what you want for an event of this calibre,” Prescott said.
“The event ran smoothly and by all accounts, the 2000–3000 spectators thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”
He said the club appreciated the works of its committee members and support from businesses, families and supporters – and the Waipā District Council.
