Signage has been approved for the 15 heritage listed buildings in central Te Awamutu, signage for other heritage trail sites is still to be confirmed.
Progress has been made on the design of 15 replacement Te Awamutu Heritage Signs.
Te Awamutu Kihikihi Community Board member Jill Taylor brought the project to the board earlier this year and it voted to allocate up to $2000 to fund new signs.

Taylor said of 37 original heritage signs only two were still in place and both were in a poor condition.
She said Waipā District Council hoped to eventually replace the signs with QR codes, “but meanwhile there is nothing.”
Taylor met Waipā District Council community services manager Brad Ward and museums and heritage director Anne Blyth. Ward suggested starting with the buildings in town.
At the May community board meeting, Blyth provided an update on the heritage signage for the 15 heritage listed buildings in central Te Awamutu – Alexandra Building, Burchill’s Building, Burns House, the Commercial Hotel, the former Empire Theatre, the former Post Office, Fowler’s Building, Giffords Building, Little Theatre, Methodist Church, Regent Theatre, Spinley’s Building, St John’s Anglican Church, Teasdale Building and Thompson Brothers Building.
Te Awamutu Museum staff have supported Taylor to provide a template and develop text for the signs.
