The News reported last week we had two residents honoured with being made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the King’s Birthday Honours – in fact there were four.
Tamahere based Andrew (John) McWilliam was also honoured. Our series last week also attributed an incorrect title to Coal Groves, also of Tamahere, who also becomes a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Growing up near Te Awamutu, he had always wanted to be a farmer. But his parents sold the farm and pointed him towards flying lessons.
