Convoy hits town

It may have rained on their parade, but the convoy numbers were huge.

Te Awamutu saw glimpses of Monday’s Convoy 2022, which attracted thousands of vehicles nationwide.

The convoy voiced their opposition to New Zealand’s ongoing Covid-19 mandates and restrictions.

A criticism previously made following the convoy was the level of media attention given to past protest events. However, Monday’s convoy was covered by most of New Zealand’s mainstream media outlets.
Stuff reported that part of the South Island’s convoy stretched for 17 kilometres, as members made their way from Bluff to Parliament.

The convoy attracted support from many who held signs as they drove past. On Tuesday the streets of Wellington central were occupied by thousands of protestors.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has declined to meet the convoy. At the time of writing, the Convoy 2022 NZ Facebook group has over 58,500 members.
